After gratuitous amounts of abuse, the MicroUSB port on my Note II started to fail. So I simply ordered a new power supply board and replaced it. Now my Note II is back to working perfectly.

This is why I like Samsung products; they can be fixed. Instead of trashing the whole device, potentially losing data and having a negative environmental impact, the broken parts can usually be individually replaced.

It’s a throw-back to the days when computers weren’t glued together, used for a year, and trashed. They were machines that you maintained, repaired, and upgraded. The user took an active role in the functioning of the device, rather than throwing it out and asking Mommy and Daddy for a new one when they broke it.

Apple, HTC, Sony, Microsoft, and all the rest of the OEMs out there should take notes.

An exerpt from Ian Clifton’s article “The Negative Impact of iOS on Android.”

“One of the most annoying aspects of iOS apps that leaks over to Android is splash screens. Android loads apps extremely quickly, but iOS can take some time, so iOS uses a bit of trickery to give the illusion that it is very responsive. Apps load an image immediately and then replace that with the UI when it’s ready. You can see it when switching between apps too because the default behavior is to take a screenshot when you leave an app and display that screenshot when you return while the app rebuilds itself. It’s particularly noticeable when the battery level jumps around, the rebuilt UI differs from the screen shot, or when you switch into and out of an app quickly and the screenshot doesn’t complete.”

Sounds like iOS just can’t keep up.

The Boomerang Nebula is the coldest place in the observable universe, with a temperature of only 1 Kelvin. The polarized photo taken of it is also one of the coolest astronomy photos around, but it seems a little… sparse.

So I decided to combine a grayscaled version of the wallpaper I posted recently and merge it with this image in Photoshop Touch, using the “Screen” color blending mode.
